Effortless Online Shopping: How Google's New Feature Will Revolutionize Checkouts

Say Goodbye to Cart Abandonment: Google's Innovative Solution Makes Shopping Faster and More Secure

A woman shopping online

Online shopping has undoubtedly transformed the way we purchase goods and services. With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, it has become a new norm for many people worldwide. However, as convenient as online shopping is, it comes with its own set of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the growing number of customers abandoning their desired products in the shopping cart. Cart abandonment is a growing problem that affects both customers and retailers. It's a frustrating experience that results in lost sales and an unsatisfactory shopping experience. But what if there was a way to solve this issue? What if the checkout process could be made faster, more secure, and with fewer abandoned carts?

Google's latest e-commerce feature, may offer a solution to the ever-growing problem of cart abandonment. With a staggering 70% of North American online shoppers reportedly abandoning their carts, retailers have been left reeling from the financial implications of this phenomenon. The Baymard Institute's research suggests that almost half of these abandoned carts occur due to hidden costs, as well as other common gripes such as mandatory account creation, slow delivery times, and unsatisfactory returns policies. In total, e-commerce stores are estimated to lose a whopping $18 billion in sales each year due to cart abandonment. However, with Google's innovative feature promising to streamline the checkout process and prevent these issues, could we see a shift in the tide for online retailers?

The new Hide and Seek features

Google decided to intervene and launch expanding shipping as well as return info in Search which will be helpful for online retailers to optimize the user experience and boost online sales. The search results will now show shipping costs and return information for merchant websites, and Google will also be monitoring and correcting structured data.

Online shoppers today demand transparency and want to know exactly what they're paying for, including shipping charges. To meet this need, retailers must provide detailed information on shipping fees and return policies, using structured data markup that will be displayed in product search results. Additionally, retailers can submit their product information directly to Google through the merchant center, and Google will use the provided Shipping and returns information to further enhance the shopping experience for consumers. By prioritizing transparency and clarity, online retailers can build trust with their customers and ensure a positive shopping experience that keeps them coming back for more.

The shipping features

Google has a system in place to ensure the accuracy of the information in the 'Hide and Seek' feature. If information is incorrect or missing, retailers will be notified through the Merchant Listings report and email notifications. This will result in an increase in trust among online shoppers, resulting in a rise in sales for online retailers while saving millions of dollars for digital marketers. The search console reports and tools will be a catalyst for retailers to ensure accurate and complete shipping as well as return information.
